MALE GYNECOMASTIA

What is gynecomastia?

GYNECOMASTIA is an anomaly that occurs in the area of male pectorals, giving a female breast appearance, affecting one or both breasts.

The signs begin to appear around the time of puberty and may eventually disappear naturally, although in some cases they remain.

What is the cause of gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia can be due to overdevelopment of the mammary gland, or to accumulation of fat in the area. Depending on the exact causes, each procedure will be different:

• Excess of fat. In this case, liposuction will be performed in the breast area and the procedure will last about half an hour.

• Growth of the mammary gland. In this case, it will be necessary to remove thegland through the areola, and the procedure can last an hour and a half.

This type of surgery may be performed under local anesthesia, although in some cases, general anesthesia or sedation may be required. One overnight hospital stay is required.

The resulting scars are practically imperceptible, especially in the case of liposuction.

What results do we get from gynecomastia?

The outcome obtained is a flat and masculine chest, which will become noticeable starting from as soon as the third day, or up to a period of six months.

If liposuction is performed, a compressive garment should be worn around the area. Five days after the operation, patients may return to their normal daily routine and work life.
